| We designed this APP to be
a cheap, easy to use, and useful tool for pilots. The
start up page provides the pilot with two very useful
pieces of information. One it the Magnetic heading from
the top of the phone. Like all compasses it can be
"confused" by magnetic fields, so judgement must be used
as to the accuracy. The second is the magnetic deviation at your current GPS location. Note that this may be different than you sectionals which are generally not as accurate. Quick Start / Preflight Start the APP. The top of the phone will give you magnetic heading in degrees. This can be used to set the gyroscopic direction finder. Display Note: Currently if you wish the Display to remain on, you must go to Settings/Display/Screen timeout and set it to Never Turn Off. We will have a smart display saver in the future. Before Flight Attach the phone to the yoke or dashboard with a commercial holder or velcro. If you have a weak GPS signal, then the dashboard will probably work better by allowing the internal GPS antenna to see the sky After GPS is Locked - Type unit (KTS,MPH,KPH; METERS,FEET; DEGREES:MAG/True) setting options The APP will now show you the Magnetic deviation from True North at your current Lat/Lon location. Go to the PANEL mode to see the basic digital instruments. Pressing any of the Type Unit Headings (Eg., Altitude) will scroll to different units. For example, switching from Feet to Meters altitude. We would love to have your feedback or new features for this product that you would find be useful. support@gipsinavigation.com Battery FAQs and Tips Battery Issues: The Android GPS uses a lot of power. Therefore you need to save battery power from other APPS. The LED Display uses the most power so it is useful to set your display to the lowest brightness value you can stand. If you set your display Brightness to MANUAL and slide it to 1/3 of maximum, The APP should work for at least 3 hours. This can be affected by state of the battery and many other variables. We will be providing options to save Display power in the future. To this end we use a lot of black background. Power Saving Suggestions and Solutions In your Wireless settings, turn off your Mobile Network. This Service goes crazy in an airplane trying to sync with a cell tower and consumes a lot of power. Alternately, you can turn on Airplane Mode which turns off all the radios except the GPS. Our goal is to keep the VFR Panel working for your whole flight. Battery Booster Products: Amazon.com has product that sounds interesting. It is Duracell Powerhouse USB Charger with Lithium ion battery / includes universal cable with USB and mini USB interfaces.
